Seems most of financial woes 'originates' from US ! Here we have something called financial cliff, which is making front page news here back in US.

Read on below article from BT, which details on this new trouble.

Come Jan. 1, Americans could face big tax increases coupled with draconian cuts in government programs if President Barack Obama and his Democrats are unable to hammer out a compromise with Republicans on fundamental changes in the way the country handles its finances.

There will be economic pain for virtually all Americans and political and ideological agony for politicians of both parties no matter how the looming "fiscal cliff" plays out. After years of government spending far more than what it collects in taxes, even the best solution for pulling back from the abyss will be nothing more than the least painful outcome.

Here is a look at the fiscal cliff, its origins and the possible solutions for avoiding its disastrous effects:

What is it?
The fiscal cliff is a convergence of mandatory spending cuts and the expiration of tax cuts, all scheduled to take effect Jan. 1.

Unless Congress and Obama reach an agreement, $85 billion in federal spending will be automatically eliminated - $32 billion from military spending and $53 billion in across-the-board cuts to education, health care, law enforcement and other social programs.

Democrats and Republicans agreed last year to schedule the automatic cuts, though neither side wants them and both hope they won't take place. It was a compromise worked out to end a dispute about the government's borrowing authority that threatened to send the U.S. into default. The cuts were seen as so politically untenable that they were expected to be an overwhelming incentive for both Republicans - who are deeply opposed to cuts for the Pentagon - and Democrats - who want to keep government social programs in place - to take more palatable action this year on the federal debt.

The expiration of tax cuts instituted during the 2001-2009 presidency of Republican George W. Bush would affect most working Americans. Again, neither party wants that to happen, but they can't work out their differences: Obama wants to keep the reduced tax rates for all but the wealthiest Americans; Republicans oppose any increase in tax rates.

Also expiring Jan. 1 will be a 2 percent reduction in payroll taxes that Americans pay into the federal Social Security pension system, temporary tax breaks for businesses and individuals, and extended unemployment benefits.

All together, the spending cuts, higher taxes and loss of extended unemployment benefits will mean that $671 billion would be sliced out of the American economy next year.

What are the consequences if no action is taken?
While the fiscal cliff would narrow the federal deficit that is now $1.1 trillion, it would mean Americans would have far less money to spend, devastating a U.S. economy that has only weakly rebounded from the last recession.

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office predicts there would be a return to recession and a spike to more than 9 percent in the already stubbornly high unemployment rate.

Without a deal, Americans would find their paychecks shrunken by higher taxes - less money to spend, especially for already strapped middle income families. Compounding that, people who depend on an array of social programs from education for their children to certain health care programs would find them spending more on that even as incomes are diminished by higher taxes. For the U.S. economy as a whole, going over the fiscal cliff might end up having similar effects to the deep austerity programs in Europe that have driven the countries using the Euro currency back into recession.

Since the United States remains the world's largest economy, the repercussions would be felt worldwide, compounding other problems, such as the weak European economy.

What are the politics behind the fiscal cliff?
Any resolution would have to be worked out by Obama and the outgoing Congress, which remains in office until the new legislature is sworn in early next year.

Obama and his primary antagonist, House Speaker John Boehner, the most powerful Republican in Washington, have already begun laying out their positions.

Obama, who has been accused of caving too readily to past Republican demands, is holding fast to his position that taxes go up for households earning more than $250,000 a year. He also says he is willing to see cuts in government spending, although he has not offered specifics.

Boehner and his Republicans - the low-tax, small-government tea party movement in particular - are equally adamant that tax rates not be raised for any income level and instead call for even deeper cuts in spending, although the targets of those reductions are unknown.

What are prospects for a resolution?

Obama meets Friday with top congressional leaders for the first time since his re-election. He finds himself with increased political standing given his victory. Republicans, meanwhile, lost seats in both chambers of Congress, though they still hold a substantial majority in the House.

Both sides are talking about compromise even as they hold fast to their longstanding positions. A poll finds that Americans are not optimistic. The survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press and The Washington Post, found that 51 percent of those questioned believed no compromise would be reached. Of those surveyed, 53 percent said blame would lie with Republicans in Congress, while 26 percent said with Obama.

Boehner has shown interest in raising more money without increasing tax rates by revamping tax policies. A possible compromise, ironically, may grow out of an idea Mitt Romney put forward in his failed campaign against Obama. He had proposed putting a cap on deductions Americans use to lower their taxable income - things like interest paid on home mortgages and state and local income taxes.

That could be constructed so that it has a greater effect on high-income Americans, meeting Obama's demand that the wealthy pay more, while satisfying Republican demands that tax rates not be increased.

Inevitably, any serious compromise that addresses the deficit would mean that at least some Americans would be paying more in taxes, and fewer services would be available.

Still possible, too, is some sort of short-term fix that would temporarily avoid the worst of the consequences of the fiscal cliff while requiring that the new Congress and the president find a long-term solution next year.

Must Read full :- If we cant change system, at least we should change our self

SERVICE TAX At Restaurants - VERY IMPORTANT !!!
Interesting.
I find restaurant bills often so confusing,
...
I just give up and pay the amount shown n the bottom line.

Perhaps we shouldn't.

Incidentally, I also resent the inclusion of Service Charges in
restaurant bills, because it assumes that I was satisfied with the
service. Just a matter of principle. Service Charge should be
something I leave behind at my personal discretion.
I recently demanded that the service charge be removed as the service was non-existent. After a short - very short! - discussion, it was removed. About Service Tax..... Be aware

This happened at the restaurant.

Let me explain.

We had been to several restaurants recently. I observed that "service
tax" was being misused in the way it was being charged to customers.

Let me give an example.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Food and Beverage = Rs. 1000.00

Service Charges @ 10% = Rs. 100.00

Service Tax @ 4.94% = Rs. 54.34 (on F&B + Service Charges)

VAT @14.5% = Rs. 145.00

Total = Rs. 1299.34

As per the definition - "Service Tax can be charged ONLY for the

services provided to the customer".

Now, see what is happening here in the above example.

Service Tax should be charged only on the Service Charge amount i.e
Rs.100 ONLY, and NOT on the entire amount (1000+100).

In this example, the customer should be charged only Rs 4.94, whereas
he has been charged Rs. 49.00 extra.

Where does this money go?
Only the restaurant owner and the chartered accountants who work for them know.

· So, I have started asking them the questions - and am
surprised to see the reaction from famous restaurants. Either they
say: "Sir we cannot change the format of the bill - so , we will
recalculate and tell you the revised amount. You may pay only that."

OR

· "Sir, you do not need to pay the Service Tax amount itself"!!

I now have 3 to 4 restaurant bills, but for which I have paid only the
service tax on the service charge and NOT on the total amount.

Every bill MUST carry the TIN number and Service Tax Number, if they
charge it. So . . . , I ask for the Service tax number if it is not
available in the receipt that they provide.

As we cannot go to any government official and ask them to get this
right - because of our system.

Please remember - we cannot change any political leader - but we can
change ourselves.

If we change ourselves - things will change.

Please do share this with every one of your friends and known people.

Ask for the right tax calculation
and
Pay only the tax which is supposed to be paid.

Verify every bill and receipt that you make payment on.

"Please share if you think its worth"

Osho – Remember this, that whenever happiness comes to you, it comes for no reason at all. Suffering has a cause, happiness none. Suffering is caused by something. It is part of cause and effect: the mechanical world. Happiness is not caused by anything. Whenever you are available, it happens, as if happiness is your nature; whenever you settle into it, it happens. Unhappiness is not your nature. It has to be caused, it has to be created.
Remember, others can cause suffering for you, but they cannot cause happiness. Once you understand this, they cannot even cause suffering. You can cause suffering for others, you cannot cause happiness. Once you understand this, you stop causing suffering also. Suffering is part of the cause-and-effect chain. Happiness is a spontaneous arousal of life. Where there is no cause for suffering, suddenly it is there. It has always been there, but you have been too focused on suffering.
That’s why Buddha says,’Don’t be worried about happiness, about bliss. Don’t talk about SATCHITANAND, don’t talk about ultimate bliss — there is no need. Just know how not to cause suffering.’ If suffering is not there, the very absence of suffering is bliss, because bliss is your intrinsic nature. It is not something that comes from the outside.
Watch: whenever suffering is felt, you will always feel as if it is coming from the outside, and whenever you feel happy, you simply feel that happiness is arising from within you. Happiness is a flower of your own consciousness. Suffering is a thorn which has entered into you: alien, foreign, not of you. So whenever you suffer you start thinking that somebody, somewhere, must be responsible for it; known, not known, but somebody must be responsible for it.
Whenever you are happy you never think that somebody is responsible for it. Whenever you suffer, you enquire as to the cause. Whenever you are happy, you never even ask. If somebody is happy and he asks,’Why am I happy?’ it will look absurd, it will look foolish, it will look mad. You are happy — that’s all. There is no ‘why’ to it. But if somebody in suffering asks,’Why am I in suffering?’ nobody can say that he is asking irrelevant things.’Why’ with suffering is relevant, with bliss it is irrelevant.

Osho – Have you ever looked lovingly at any object? You may say yes because you do not know what it means to look lovingly at an object. You may have looked lustfully at an object – that is another thing. That is totally different, diametrically opposite. So first, the difference; try to feel the difference.
A beautiful face, a beautiful body – you look at it, and you feel that you are looking at it lovingly. But why are you looking at it? Do you want to get something out of it? Then it is lust, not love. Do you want to exploit it? Then it is lust, not love. Then really, you are thinking of how to use this body, how to possess it, how to make this body an instrument for your happiness.
Lust means how to use something for your happiness; love means your happiness is not at all concerned. Really, lust means how to get something out of it and love means how to give something. They are diametrically opposite. If you see a beautiful face and you feel love toward the face, the immediate feeling in your consciousness will be how to do something to make this face happy, how to do something to make this man or this woman happy. The concern is not with yourself, the concern is with the other.
In love the other is important; in lust you are important. In lust you are thinking how to make the other your instrument; in love you are thinking how to become an instrument yourself. In lust you are going to sacrifice the other; in love you are going to sacrifice yourself. Love means giving; lust means getting. Love is a surrender; lust is an aggression.
What you say is meaningless. Even in lust you talk in terms of love. Your language is not very meaningful, so do not be deceived. Look within, and then you will come to understand that you have not once in your life looked lovingly toward someone or some object.

Love is an untamed force. When we try to control it, it destroys us. When we try to imprison it, it enslaves us. When we try to understand it, it leaves us feeling lost and confused.
